Addis Ababa, April 8, 2025 — The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), officially launched the Basin Management Support for Resilient, Inclusive Growth, and Harmonized Transformation (BRIGHT) Project for Abbay, Awash, and Tekeze Basins. The launch took place at Haile Grand Hotel in Addis Ababa.

The launch brought together 85 participants, including bureau heads, representatives from basin administration offices, universities, the Environmental Protection Authority, Addis Ababa city Administration, MoWE and WLRC. Attendees represented all the three basins—Abbay, Awash, and Tekeze—underscoring the collaborative and inclusive nature of the initiative.

In his Welcoming remarks, Dr. Gete Zeleke, Director General of WLRC, highlighted the importance of the workshop in rolling the BRIGHT Project to action. “This workshop is essential for consolidating inputs from diverse partners and shaping the project’s 2025 Annual Plan. It calls for setting clear priorities, fostering teamwork, planning and acting together to achieve outcomes that will be maintained through collective ownership.

The State Minister of MoWE Dr. Abraha Adugna expressed his appreciation to all participants and the organiser who convened for the good cause. He emphasised the Project’s significance in improving IWRM in the target basins and called upon the participants to actively contribute to translating the project’s plans into tangible results on the ground. H.E. Dr. Abraha then declared the BROGHT Project officially launched for for Abbay, Awash, and Tekeze Basins.

The event served as a platform to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, share key insights, and build momentum for effective and inclusive water resource management across the three basins. The participants in their behalf vowed their commitment to collaborate in implementing the project.
