[July 21–22, 2026, Bonga, ] – The Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) and Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), through the BRIGHT project, conducted a two-day induction workshop on the Basin-Wide Situation Assessment for the Omo-Ghibe Basin at Lewi Hotel, Bonga, Souuth-West Ethiopia Regional State. The workshop brought together the Technical Planning Team and thematic leads to officially launch the assessment process.
The workshop aimed to establish a common understanding of the Basin-Wide Situation Assessment, align technical teams on the planning framework, and define standards for data collection, integration, and information sharing. The opening sessions also reviewed findings from the previous basin plan, technical audit, resource mapping, and governance assessments, highlighting the need to develop a new basin plan that reflects the basin’s current realities and its strategic importance to Ethiopia’s economic development.
