[July 30–31, 2026, Hawassa] – The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC) and MOWE conducted a two-day induction workshop on the Basin-Scale Situation Assessment for the Rift Valley Lakes Basin, bringing together the Basin Core Technical Planning Team and thematic leads to initiate the assessment process.
The workshop aimed to establish a shared understanding of the requirements, processes and tools needed for Basin-Scale Situation Assessment, align technical teams on the planning framework, and strengthen coordination for the preparation of an evidence-based Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Plan for the Rift Valley Lakes Basin.
Participants also reviewed progress, achievements, and lessons from earlier phases of basin planning to inform the next stage of the process.
The workshop concluded with thematic discussions that established a common understanding among technical teams and laid the foundation for the comprehensive assessment that will support the revision of the Rift Valley Lakes Basin Integrated Water Resources Management Plan.
