On February 28, 2026, the Woshi Catchment hosted a landmark event as stakeholders convened for the Key Stakeholder Consultation and Launch of Quick Wins under the BRIGHT project. The gathering brought together representatives from government institutions, including regional bureaus, the Kaffa Zone administration, woreda offices, sectoral agencies, and kebele leaders. In addition, participants visited the Hare Catchment for experience sharing, while development agents from six Quick-Wins kebeles actively engaged in the workshop.
The consultation was structured into two working groups, each tasked with addressing critical themes such as stakeholder identification, committee formation for technical and restoration activities, role clarification, plan development, community mobilization strategies, bylaw drafting, and pathways for collaborative action. Following intensive group discussions, participants presented their outputs to the plenary, sparking constructive dialogue and further refinement. Numerous questions were raised to ensure clarity, and the WLRC team provided comprehensive responses, reinforcing confidence in the process.
Throughout the day, the central theme was on the way of cascading accountability to mobilize the communities, a principle that places communities and local governments at the forefront of implementation. This approach underscores the importance of grassroots ownership, with external partners serving primarily as facilitators and providers of technical and financial support.
The launch of Quick-Wins was celebrated as a decisive step toward immediate action. These interventions, spanning soil and water conservation, livelihood support, and catchment rehabilitation, were designed to deliver visible progress, strengthen trust among stakeholders, and build momentum for the broader catchment management strategy.
The event concluded with the establishment of woreda-level committees, which will be cascaded down to kebele structures, ensuring collective responsibility and sustained engagement. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to clear, inclusive, and accountable communication as the foundation for effective community mobilization. The consultation and launch not only marked the beginning of Quick Wins but also signalled a renewed dedication to sustainable, community-driven transformation in the Woshi Catchment.
