[ 27 March,2026, Infranze] Implementation of quick-win interventions in the Infranze Catchment is progressing steadily, with activities coordinated across four specialized technical teams. The initiative has focused on mobilizing resources, engaging communities, and launching site-specific operations aimed at improving watershed management and water-use efficiency.
Gully Rehabilitation
Community mobilization has been completed, and site surveying activities are finalized. Current efforts are focused on mobilizing inputs, including stone and wood supplies and working tools, alongside initiating physical works to rehabilitate degraded gullies.
Nursery Management
Essential materials required for nursery site support and operations have been delivered. In parallel, awareness sessions are being conducted for nursery supervisors and forest experts to strengthen technical capacity and ensure effective implementation.
Spring Source Protection
Protection activities are underway for spring sources in Areki, Lomi, and Tikurwuha. A multi-institutional technical team—comprising representatives from the Regional Water and Energy Bureau, Bahir Dar Water and Sewerage Service, Bahir Dar University, Abbay Basin, and Bahir Dar Zuria Water Office—has been established. Following orientation and technical discussions, the team completed field assessments, finalized physical measurements, and prepared protective fence and culvert designs along with the Bill of Quantity (BoQ). The team is now preparing bid documents, paving the way for contracting and implementation of construction works aimed at improving water-use efficiency.
Irrigation Scheme Maintenance
Maintenance work is ongoing at the Wegelsa and Weramit irrigation schemes. Activities include site clearing and comprehensive surveying, while design refinements are being finalized to optimize conveyance and distribution systems
