[Nov 28, 2025] Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy(MoWE), started a five-day Catchment Situation Assessment, Preliminary Findings and Catchment Management Plan (CMP) Review Workshop, for four catchments within four of the five basins wherein the BRIGHT project is in progress. This workshop, running from 28th November to 2nd December 2025 at Haile Grand Hotel, Addis Ababa, aims to provide opportunities to enrich, refine, and finalise the baseline situation assessment reports for Wedecha Catchment in Upper Awash, Infranze Catchment in Abbay, Weshi Catchment in Omo-Ghibe and Tseba-Ayna Catchment in Tekeze basins.

In his welcoming address, WLRC Director General Dr. Gete Zeleke thanked all those involved in the Catchment Situation Assessment and CMP works so far and urged them to continue their commitment to see it to the end. The workshop intends to finalize the Situation Assessment Reports and draft CMPs, ensuring that all documents are clear, consistent, and ready for the upcoming stakeholder validation workshop. With those notes, the participants shared breakout session presentations and discussions under four major thematic categories, and they are set to indulge in refining the draft CMP through a step-by-step approach that factors in the principles of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM).

The workshop gathers about 90 participants, including WLRC thematic leaders and technical staff, experts from the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), and administrative heads and staff from Abbay and Awash basins, Regional Bureaus of water and Agriculture, and Universities in the vicinity of the catchments. This collaborative environment solicits active participation from the participants, hence serving also as a good opportunity for strengthening dialogue, improving coordination, and ensuring high quality of the catchment planning process.
