[23 March, 2026] WLRC and partners took part in the World Water Day 2026 Celebration (‘the Sululta Water and Hydro-Diplomacy Regional Conference’) held 23–24, March 2026, in Bishoftu town under the theme “Hydro-Diplomacy and Regional Cooperation for Sustainable Water and Energy Development and Management.” The Celebratory event organised by the Ministry of Water and Energy brought together ministers, policymakers, researchers, development partners, and water professionals from Ethiopia and the other Nile Basin countries. Dr. Gete Zeleke, the WLRC Director General, indicated that the discussions emphasised integrated water resources management, hydro-diplomacy, transboundary water governance, and evidence-based decision-making. The celebration also highlighted the role of equitable access to water in promoting gender equality and sustainable development. The event reinforced the importance of collaboration, data sharing, and inclusive participation to advance water security in the region.
