[ July 18, 2026] — The desk review phase of the Awash Basin Situation Assessment (SA), undertaken to support the revision of the Awash Basin Plan, was conducted on July 18, 2026, following the completion of a two-day induction training for the assessment team.
The induction training brought together thematic leaders and team members to establish a common understanding of the Situation Assessment process, clarify thematic responsibilities, and agree on the key activities required ahead of the upcoming field mission.
The Awash Basin Situation Assessment is an important step in the revision of the Awash Basin Plan, providing evidence and technical information to support a comprehensive understanding of the basin’s current conditions, challenges, opportunities, and development needs. The findings will contribute to strengthening the evidence base for informed and integrated basin planning and management.
The assessment team expressed its appreciation to Dr. Bizuneh, Dr. Taye, and all thematic leaders and members who provided valuable technical support and guidance throughout the induction training. The team also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and strengthened technical support throughout the Awash Basin Plan Revision process.
