[Adama, Ethiopia – July 25, 2025] – The BRIGHT Project conducted a hands-on training on using Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) technology for hydrological monitoring. Held from July 21–25, 2025, at the Adama Harnis Hotel, the workshop equipped 30 water professionals—including five women—with advanced skills for smarter water management.
Dr. Ermias Teferi, Water Resource Division Director at WLRC, underscored that using ADCP technology dramatically reduces measurement time, enhances accuracy, and performs reliably even in challenging field conditions, and thus avoids inefficiencies and inconsistent data which the traditional discharge measurement methods often suffer.
The training was led by Dr. Ermias Teferi (WLRC), Solomon Kebede (MoWE), Birhanu Legesse (RVLB), and Ato Abraham (Resident Basin Coordinator), which combined theory and practical fieldwork, ensuring participants gain hands-on experience in deploying ADCP technology effectively.
By integrating advanced monitoring techniques for ensuring availability of reliable data for sustainable resource planning, the BRIGHT Project is strengthening the technical capacities of Ethiopia’s water management sector. This initiative aligns with the Project’s broader efforts to build technical capacity and foster innovation in the country’s water sector.
