[July 16–18, 2026, Bishoftu] – The Ministry of Water and Energy and Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), through the BRIGHT Project, conducted a Basin-wide Situation Assessment induction a workshop to collect the evidence needed for revising the Awash Basin Plan. The process began with a three-day induction and planning workshop that brought together Basin Plan preparation and review teams from regional sector offices and the Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations. Participants examined findings from the technical audit and resource mapping which had been conducted under the BRIGHT Project, identifying key strengths, challenges, gaps, and opportunities that will guide the basin assessment.
Technical sessions led by Dr. Bizuneh and Dr. Taye introduced the 60/40 Integrated Approach, planning sub-basins, standardized assessment methodologies, and data collection tools, ensuring that all five thematic teams adopt a common framework for the revision process.
Following the induction, the team officially launched the desk review phase on July 18, developing a joint action plan that guides the upcoming field-based Situation Assessment across the Awash Basin.
