A five-day training on ISO/IEC 17025 was conducted from March 30 to April 3, 2026, bringing together laboratory technicians from the five BRIGHT river basins. Dr. Bitew indicated that the training aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of laboratory quality management systems and enhance their capacity to meet international accreditation requirements.
The sessions covered key components of ISO/IEC 17025, including general accreditation requirements, method validation and verification, measurement uncertainty, and decision rules and compliance evaluation. Through interactive presentations, practical examples, and guided discussions, participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into implementing quality standards in laboratory operations.
A total of 32 laboratory technicians participated in the training, with women representing 50 percent of the trainees.
At the end of the training, participants undertook an assessment to evaluate their understanding of the course content and the effectiveness of the training. Those who successfully met the evaluation criteria were awarded certificates of completion during a certification ceremony.
The training was officially closed by Ato Debebe Deferso, who emphasised the importance of applying the acquired knowledge to improve laboratory practices and support quality assurance across the BRIGHT basins.
