Integrated watershed management interventions are in good progress at Wedecha catchment of Awash Basin, with ongoing efforts focused on soil and water conservation, gully rehabilitation, livelihood enhancement, and water harvesting.
The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), conducted a writeshop to develop comprehensive training modules on Stakeholder Engagement and Communicating Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
The Water and Land Resource Center (WLRC) and the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), together with the Rift Valley Lakes Basin Office (RVLB), convened a two-day stakeholder validation workshop on the Basin Plan Technical Audit and IWRM Resource Mapping and Assessment Report, which were done as part of the activities , supported by the BRIGHT Project.
Implementers of and partners in the BRIGHT Project, namely the Water and Land Resource Center (WLRC), the Ministry of Water and Energy including the Awash Basin Administration Office, convened a catchment-level consultative meeting in Bishoftu town and facilitated the formal establishment of a Wedecha Dam Administration Steering Committee.
A three-day training on “Transforming Restrictive Gender Norms for Inclusive IWRM in the Infranze Catchment through Gender Model Families and Integrated Livelihoods Enhancement” was conducted at Bahir Dar.
Capacity development training on improved cook stove design, use, and promotion in the Infranze catchment, Abbay Basin, was conducted 25th and 26th April, Bahir Dar as part of IWRM implementation under the BRIGHT project.
A technical briefing on ASPEN Technology was held at the WLRC Meeting Hall on 23rd of April 2026, bringing together experts and stakeholders to explore advanced solutions in seismic monitoring and data management.
