A capacity-building training on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approaches was facilitated from April 2–4, 2026, at Wukro town, Tigrai National Regional State. Dr, Berhane, Tekeze Basin Resident basin Coordinator for BRIGHT Project, noted that the initiative aimed to strengthen local capacity for effective implementation of IWRM strategies at the grassroots level.
The event was commenced with opening remarks by Mr. Hailay G/her, Head of the Economic Sector of Kilte Awlaelo Woreda. In his address, Hailay highlighted the importance of such capacity-building initiatives under the BRIGHT project for strengthening local implementation of IWRM practices. He also reminded the participants to play a critical role in supporting the ongoing quick-win interventions within the Tseba-Ayna catchment.
The final day featured a field visit to the Genfel River, where participants observed biological measures constructed for gully treatment and riverbank stabilization. The field visit reinforced the applicability of the training concepts in real-world watershed management efforts.
A total of 119 participants attended the training, including 71 Kebele experts working on agriculture and water, and 43 community representatives drawn from Kebele administrations and Irrigation Water Users Associations (IWUAs). The participants were drawn from three Woredas—Atsibi, Kilte Awlaelo, and Tsirae Wemberta—within the Tseba-Ayna Catchment.
