WLRC-Kunzila ILMWA project starts fish farming at the Southern part of Lake Tana. The fish farming will be piloted in 20 private fish cages; each of them has an area of 25 m2. The depth of the cage net is 4 meters that has the capacity to farm 8000-10,000 fishes in a season.
WLRC-Kunzila ILMWA Project organizes livestock fattening fair on 12 April 2022 at Kunzila Town. Farmers who got credit from SACCOs and support from the project to engage in fattening of oxen, goat and sheep as well as poultry farming participate at the livestock fattening fair. The objective of the livestock fattening fair is to introduce the project activities in the project area and create market chain for farmers.
During the first year of Kunzila ILMWA, 17 protected wells (shallow ground water), 90 monitoring points on Lake Tana, 12 river sites and 7 gauging stations on rivers have been identified as scientific monitoring sites. Hydro-sediment monitoring sites were constructed on seven rivers in Kunzila and water quality monitoring data collection has been commenced.
WLRC facilitates a workshop on SLMP-KIMS at Canopy Hotel, Adama. Sustainable Land Management Program, Ministry of Agriculture organizes the workshop in two rounds. More than 110 attendees from Oromia, Gambela and Benishangul Gumuz regions join the first round workshop, which is taking place from April 05-09/2022
During the 2013 E.C, the WASH development component of the Kunzila ILMWA project supported the development of 88 traditional shallow wells, 2 manual tube wells, 900 HDP pipes, 6 reservoirs; upgrading of 70 traditional shallow wells; and installation of 4 pumps in the KILMWA project sites. Also a total of 31 springs, shallow & hand dug wells fitted with pumps were rehabilitated.
