[WLRC, March, 2026] A new Irrigation Water Users Association (IWUA) was established by water users of the Doko Yoira Irrigation Scheme in Chencha Zuria Woreda of Gamo Zone. Facilitated by WLRC together with MoWE and the local water sector structure, IWUA leaders were elected through a transparent and participatory election process by the General Assembly. Before the establishment of the Association, multi-stakeholder consultative meetings were held to ensure an inclusive and participatory process and participation and ownership of the local community. The formation of the IWUA was closely linked to the ongoing rehabilitation of the Doko Yoira irrigation infrastructure with the support of the BRIGHT Project. Furthermore, a capacity development training on irrigation scheme operation and management was delivered to also two previously established IWUAs and one traditionally organized IWUA representing irrigation water users in four kebeles in Arbaminch Zuria Woreda. The training included practical, field observation-based sessions and dialogues designed to enhance the technical skills required for effective irrigation management.
