[WLRC, May 2026]– The BRIGHT Project, implemented by the Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), is undertaking major irrigation development interventions in the downstream areas of the Hare Catchment.
Several irrigation infrastructure projects along the Hare River are either completed or at advanced stages of construction. These include the rehabilitation of irrigation canals in Muja Kebele, the construction of the Ginafo Aqueduct, the removal of sediment from the Chano-Mille and Chano-Chalba irrigation canal, and the construction of a super passage structure to improve water conveyance and irrigation efficiency.
These interventions are expected to enhance irrigation water delivery, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen the resilience of local farming communities. By addressing key infrastructure challenges, the project aims to support sustainable agricultural development and improve livelihoods across the catchment.
Community members and local government leaders have highly appreciated the BRIGHT Project’s contributions and the active engagement of project staff throughout the implementation process. Stakeholders have recognized the project’s commitment to addressing local needs and delivering practical solutions that benefit both farmers and the wider community.
The ongoing irrigation developments represent a significant milestone in the BRIGHT Project’s efforts to promote integrated water resources management and sustainable development within the Hare Catchment.
