Quick-win interventions supported by the BRIGHT project are progressing well in the Tseba-Ayna catchment, with strong community participation.
Dr. Berhanie Girum reported that gully and riverbank rehabilitation is underway in Tahtay Adikisandid Kebele Kilte Awlaelo Woreda, where a 167-meter gabion wall is being constructed to reduce erosion. A total of 1,298 people (618 men and 680 women) were mobilised, with an average daily participation of about 62 individuals. So far, approximately 429 m³ of gabion wall has been completed.
Similarly, rehabilitation of gabion check dams is ongoing in Hadnet and Adimesanu Kebeles of Atsibi Woreda. Until the 17th of April, 238.5 m³ of stone has been collected and 40 m³ of earth excavated for the foundations, with 350 people mobilised for the activities.
Furthermore, rehabilitation of community irrigation hand-dug wells has started across six schemes in Gebrekidan and Hadnet kebeles to mprove irrigation water access for local communities. A total of 193 m³ of masonry work has been completed, out of which 46 m³ is dry masonry and 147 m³ is cemented masonry.
