[WLRC, May 2026] – The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) through the BRIGHT Project, has achieved significant progress in watershed restoration interventions across the Hare Catchment. The implemented measures have demonstrated visible and encouraging results throughout the project intervention sites.
A range of restoration activities, including trench construction, gabion structures, bamboo-mat check dams, and various biological conservation measures, have contributed to reducing land degradation, controlling sediment movement, and enhancing ecosystem restoration. These interventions are expected to improve watershed health while supporting sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
Community members across all project intervention areas have expressed strong appreciation for the BRIGHT Project’s efforts. Many beneficiaries noted that the interventions have brought renewed hope and practical solutions to long-standing environmental and livelihood challenges, helping communities move toward a more secure and resilient future.
The project continues to maintain strong momentum through its quick-win interventions. Activities implemented under the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) framework are progressing steadily and delivering tangible benefits across multiple sectors. The positive outcomes observed so far highlight the potential of integrated watershed restoration approaches to enhance environmental sustainability and improve the well-being of local communities.
