[WLRC 10 Dec. 25] The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC) and the Ministry of Water and Energy, together with key partners in the BRIGHT project (WP5.1) start auditing the current plans and preparing new ones for the BRIGHT target Basins. This workshop continues for three-days from December 10–12, 2025, at the Capital Hotel ,Addis Ababa.

Dr. Gete Zeleke, Director General of WLRC, welcomed all participants and thanked them for the work done so far on the basin plan audit and preparation. The workshop was officially opened by HE Ato Motuma Merkassa, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Water and Energy, with the rank of State Minister. Ato Motuma stated that the Basin Plan is one of MoWE’s key management tools, yet the implementation of the seven existing plans has faced challenges over the years. He also urged the participants to take lessons from neighbouring countries on how they implement their respective Basin Plans.

The ongoing workshop brings together experts to evaluate past situation assessments, plan formulation, implementation progress, and MELA practices using MoWE’s updated guidelines. Inputs from the session will inform the revision and preparation of basin plans for the Abbay, Awash, Rift Valley Lakes, Omo-Ghibe, and the new Tekeze Basin.
