Addis Ababa, July 31, 2025 — The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC) conducted a two-day internal validation workshop on findings and suggested interventions for the Hare Catchment Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Baseline Situation Assessment. Held on July 31st and 1st Aug, 2025, the workshop brought together staff from WLRC, including Resident Basin and Catchment Coordinators, Water Resources Desk officers from the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), representatives from the Rift Valley Lakes Basin Authority (RVLB), and technical experts and office heads from Gamo Zone Water Irrigation and Mines, and Agric. Departments and Arba Minch Zuria, Checha Zuria, and Dita woredas.

The workshop was opened by Dr. Tena Alamirew, WLRC Deputy Director General, who welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the Workshop. The MoWE IWRM Lead Executive Officer, Mr. Debebe Defersso shared his key insights and directions regarding the role of the BRIGHT Project in taking IWRM to the ground.

The first day of the workshop focused on the biophysical aspects of the catchment, presented by Dr. Yilkal and his team. The second day focused on presentations dedicated to socio-economics and livelihoods, presented by Dr. Amare and Dr. Desalegn, followed by a session on institutions and stakeholders, facilitated by Dr. Matebu.

Each session featured concise presentations followed by in-depth discussions and reflections. The workshop aimed to validate the findings and action points in terms of completeness and technical accuracy, and relevance.
