[12 Jun, 2026] Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), The Center for Adolescent Girls Health (CAGH), and the Ethiopian Women Researchers’ Association (EWRA) formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on Friday, May 29, 2026. The agreement establishes a collaborative project titled, “From Grey Water to Green Spaces: Advancing Institutional Backyard Gardening through Treated Wastewater Reuse for IWRM.”
The initiative is planned for an initial one-year period with the possibility of a three-year extension, aims to demonstrate the viability of using treated grey water from nature-based systems to support institutional backyard gardening. The overarching goal is to improve water-use efficiency, enhance food and nutrition security, and promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience. The project will also integrate digital agriculture skills and empower youth and women.
Under the MOA, AASTU agreed to allocate land for demonstration gardens and provide an estimated matching contribution of ETB 2,400,000.00, and WLRC through the BRIGHT Project vowed to contribute technical expertise and financial support estimated at ETB 4,635,000 for the installation of irrigation infrastructure and related technologies. CAGH and EWRA will lead community mobilization efforts and provide technical assistance in gender, nutrition, and youth empowerment.
