[WLRC, May 2026] – The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) through the BRIGHT Project, has completed spring development and rehabilitation works in the Hare Catchment of the Rift Valley Lakes Basin. The completed projects, located in Chencha Zuria and Dita Woredas, are now ready for inauguration.
One of the completed spring development schemes is located in Doko Shale Kebele, Chencha Zuriya Woreda. The water supply system sources water from the Swiza Mountain spring and extends over a distance of 5.8 kilometers from the source to the final distribution point. The scheme includes 10 water distribution points and is expected to provide reliable access to clean drinking water for approximately 1,560 households.
In addition to supplying potable water, the project incorporates an 18 m³ irrigation reservoir designed to capture overflow water from the 25,000-liter water storage reservoir. The irrigation component has the potential to support the cultivation of up to 50 hectares of land, benefiting 60 households and contributing to improved livelihoods and food security in the area.
The inauguration of these facilities marks an important milestone in enhancing water access and promoting sustainable watershed development within the Hare Catchment.
