[July 1, 2026, Addis Ababa]– The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), through the BRIGHT Project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), organized a high-level Validation Workshop on the development of Ethiopia’s National Surface Water and Wastewater Quality Monitoring Guidelines at Capital Hotel. The event was officially opened by H.E. Mr. Mottuma Mekassa, State Minister of Water and Energy, while welcoming remarks were delivered by Dr. Gete Zeleke, Director General of WLRC.
The meeting brought together over 70 government officials, researchers, academics, and water sector experts to review the draft guidelines and provide technical input for their finalization.
Presentations covered the guideline development process, policy and legal considerations, and the draft national guidelines for surface water and wastewater quality monitoring. Participants engaged in productive discussions and provided recommendations aimed at strengthening the guidelines and supporting their effective implementation.
