[WLRC, Bahir Dar, 22–24 December 2025]: The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), held a stakeholders’ validation workshop on Baseline Situation Assessment Findings, Quick-win Interventions and Catchment Management Plan for Infranze Catchment. Held 22–24 December 2025 at Unison Hotel in Bahir Dar, the workshop aimed to validate the findings of integrated biophysical, socio-economic, and governance assessments conducted in the Infranze Catchment, a designated hotspot catchment within the Abbay Basin.
The workshop was officially opened by Dr. Michael Mehari, Senior Advisor to the Minister at MoWE, who highlighted the strong partnership between the Ministry, WLRC, and key stakeholders in advancing IWRM interventions in water governance, energy, WASH, and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Dr. Michael expressed his appreciation to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for its financial support and acknowledged the collective efforts of stakeholders contributing to the success of the initiative.
Ms. Lisan Bijdevaate, First Secretary for Water Affairs at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ethiopia, also addressed the participants. She expressed her enthusiasm for supporting initiatives that focus on land and water resources with the potential to generate meaningful and lasting impacts on communities.
Over the course of the workshop, the participants reviewed and validated baseline situation assessment findings covering biophysical conditions, climate and water systems, water resources management, governance, and socio-economic aspects of the catchment.
