The Gray to Green (G2G) Project Workshop was from September 15-16, 2026, at Debre Birhan University. Organized under the BRIGHT Project, the workshop focused on “Closing the IWRM Loop: Utilization of Treated Urban Return Flows to Reduce Pressure on Primary Freshwater Sources, Ecosystem Health, and Innovative Green Job Creation in the Circular Economy”
The event brought together key representatives from the Ministry of Education, including Dr. Abunu Arega, Research Director, and Wro Selamawit, Director of the Community Outreach Program, alongside Dr. Sisay Mulat, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at Debre Birhan University.
The workshop provided a platform for participants to exchange knowledge and explore opportunities to integrate treated urban wastewater into productive uses, reducing pressure on freshwater resources and promoting sustainable and inclusive green employment.
The students who were selected from surrounding high schools, communities, and the university were oriented to participate in the project in different cycles and stages of vegetable production and distribution on the land that was given by Debre Birhan University.
The Gray-to-Green sub-Project is implemented under the BRIGHT Project, with the support of the Government of the Netherlands and the European Union.
