High-Level Technical Briefing on Water Audit Information System and Electronic Water Permit System Conducted

[June 8, 2026 | Addis Ababa]– The Water and Land Resource Centre (WLRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE), held a High-Level Technical Briefing on the Water Audit Information System (WAISE) and Electronic Water Permit (E-Water Permit) System at Capital Hotel, Addis Ababa.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Gete Zeleke, Director General of WLRC, highlighted the significant gaps that persist in water data collection and utilization in Ethiopia, emphasizing the need for reliable and accessible information to support effective water resources management.
Officially opening the event, H.E. Dr. Ing. Habtamu Itafa, Minister of Water and Energy, noted that modern information systems are essential for informed decision-making and achieving national water sector priorities.
The briefing featured presentations on the principles and modules of the Water Audit Information System, and mobile and web-based platforms for water audit data collection. Participants also discussed the progress and future direction of the Electronic Water Permit System and its role in strengthening evidence-based water governance in Ethiopia.
